Skiing in Carinthia
Winter holidays in Bad Kleinkirchheim
Skiing in Bad Kleinkirchheim is great. You and your kids will find plenty of variety on the 103 kilometres of well-groomed slopes. Sunny trails at all levels of difficulty ensure that even skiing aces won’t get bored. Plus, you can try out the World Cup slope named after Olympic champion Franz Klammer, who occasionally stops by to show off his carving skills. The youngest skiers can first head to the children’s wonderland to practice.
There are 25 modern chair lifts, gondolas and T-bar lifts to carry you up the mountain. And if you get a bit tired on your way back to the valley, or would like to stop to take in the impressive views, there are benches available for you - not to mention the 23 chalets happy to serve you delicious refreshments so you can get your strength back. Then you can continue on with your ski day in Bad Kleinkirchheim!
It may still dark but hopefully you are wide awake just before 6:00 am - because the slopes are calling! It isn’t just the slopes that will be yours alone but also your skiing companion: Olympic medalist and ski legend Franz Klammer will be waiting for you and the others at the valley station of the Kaiserburg cable car at 6:30 am.
Like a world champion!
Then it’s time to take the cable car up the mountain. For two hours, the world champion will carve down the perfect slopes with you including the world cup slope named after him (which boasts parts with a gradient of up to 80%). It’s really no big deal if you are a few seconds slower than him. When the sun peeks out from above the mountain tops, your ski experience will be simply perfect.
After so much activity and fresh air, you won’t have to wait long for hunger to strike. Simply head back up to the Klammerstubn where you will enjoy a wonderful brunch with regional treats. The most zealous skiers will certainly want to head back to the slopes … and perhaps a few others will happily head back to their warm beds to dream of their next world cup skiing experience, when they leave Franz far behind…

Skiing does not always have to be done in the classic downhill way. Anyone who has gone ski touring usually doesn’t want to go back to the busy slopes. They would rather enjoy the crunch of fresh snow under their skis during their ascent and the limitless freedom of skiing down wonderful hillsides that you have all to yourself. Around Bad Kleinkirchheim, a wide range of interesting and scenic tours await you. There is even a special trail tour for beginners.
